Better late than never....
Ok, almost two weeks ago now, Scott Alexander, Whispering Dan and I went up to London to the Tin Pan Alley Festival, in Denmark St London (famous for it's many music shops and the recording studio where the likes of Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles and.....erm......Coolio? have recorded in the past) The primary reason for this excursion was to see the barbs (of course) but the other bands were also quite cool, here are some pictures to illustrate the variety on display folkish Gypsy guy and his two little helpers, surprisingly pleasant, good stuff to relax to Senor Senor, who were playing latin style covers of classic rock tracks (the Ace Of Spades with trumpets!!) not nearly as bad as it sounds and very funny!!! ahh...............the Barbs, http://img29.photobucket.com/albums/v86/theprisoner/013_10.jpg http://img29.photobucket.com/albums/v86/theprisoner/012_09.jpg The Others, headline act and the only group present to have a fan club (The 853 Kamakazi Stage Diving Squad) who i have now made this recruiting poster for.... http://img29.photobucket.com/albums/v86/theprisoner/853_copy.jpg watch out for these guys, they're gonna be huge! apologies for the lack of posting btw, have been working all week! Dagnammit!
Gah! my photo's of the Tin Pan Alley festival have yet to arrive (so i still can't tell u about it, it would be wrong, just wrong)and i also will have to delay my new background shot by me, i started work today (so...tired...but need....money) and the japanese class just got back, which is good, but is now making me regret not at least trying to persuade my parents to let me go with them to japan, but then i would have missed tin pan alley and the prom so you can't have everything. I also missed simons birthday and associated revelry, bugger. also anyone who reads this and knows dense dave s. needs to tell him to give me back my brass eye DVD pronto. but on the bright side, i'm reliably informed there is pocky coming my way (those of you who didn't understand that will just have to live in wonder *laughs maniacally*) I have a huge back logue of things to put at the end here, todays music: Hope of the states- The red the white the black the blue todays t-shirt: Rape is never a laughing matter unless it involves a clown todays t-shirt like slogan which was actually spotted on Amy's guitar at Tin Pan Alley-I Fucked Your Boyfriend # posted by The Prisoner | 6:30 PM | Tuesday, July 13, 2004

hmmm..
Name Acronym Generator From Go-Quiz.com alot of html for such a small meme.....meh tomorrow for the third time in my existence i am going to see the barbs live in London, and this time i am bringing friends in tow, i am slightly concerned however, the whole thing was my idea so "what if they don't like em?" and other such niggling questions are bothering me at present, ah well, should be plenty of other bands to look out for. Last night i went to MY school prom, having already been to the fort pitt one i can now class myself as something of a connoiseur :) A bit of a milestone in two ways, firstly it's the end of school and the beginning of whatever comes next, and also the first time i have consumed any alcohol in a sizeable quantity (woo for Jack Daniels) and miraculously i was neither ill nor hungover, this probably means i'll get it double next time though :S be sure to visit ickle paul's blog on my comrades list, he wrote a very chucklesome post the other day on his life working in tesco's, read it. RAN
a film i bought when Mater and i went to the Tate Modern yesterday (and as such had to negotiate the weirdest place on earth-the south Bank, filled with didgeridoo players and people on bicycles made to resemble prams or racecars, and lots of white people with dreadlocks and pointy goatees. i shudderd in horror as i realised these were ART PEOPLE!!!) Ran was made in 1985 by acclaimed japanese Director Akira Kurosawa, like a lot of Kurosawa flicks it borrows from western culture (the plot is a slight reworking of King Lear) but at the same time it is VERY Japanese in a brilliant way. For those of you (and there's bound to be a few uneducated dolts out there :P KIDDING KIDDING!!! ) who don't know King Lear/Ran here's the basic plot word of the day Daimyo: Japanese Lord An old King/Daimyo decides it is time to retire and devides his power between his three daughters/sons, the eldest two launch into great flowery speeches over who loves/respects him the most, while the third daughter/son simply scoffs and claims the plan to be foolish, the other two siblings will only betray him. Which of course they do, at this point the plots deviate slighty but with the same end result. The daimyo find himself unwelcome at the castles of his two elder sons, who are busy competing for command of his kingdom, so he moves the third castle, deserted as his youngest son has been banished for his insolence. he wakes up next morning to find his sons armies merrily slaughtering his personal guard in true japanese fashion (for some reason i've never figured out, the japanese seem to have about ten times more blood in them than any other ethinc group, and it seems to take about twenty arrows to kill any of them) interestingly parts of this scene also make up the opening FMV to Shogun Total War. The Kings Keep is burnt down and in a truly magnificent piece of cinema, the dazed Daimyo staggers down the steps as the two armies part before him, with the keep burning down in the backgorund (it Really was burning too, they could only afford one take!) he's gone mad and wanders the plains tortured by all the evil he commited in order to rise to power. His third son (the only one who was truly loyal) arrives to resuce his mad father and the armies of the other two sons are crushed by neighbouring Daimyos with the assistance of a scheming lady, whose family were murdered by the Daimyo some years before. however this film is based on a shakespeare tragedy so it can't end there, the third son is killed by a stray musket ball just as he rescues his father and they console their differences, the Daimyo dies of grief. Seeing as it's based on a shakespeare play, this film is very very wordy, combined with the fact that it's subtitled means REALLY having to pay attention, something my fragile mind had trouble with last night, (we got home late, the trains were all delayed due to leaves on the line or the wrong kind of snow or somesuch) however, the action sequences are exquisite and the truly epic scale of the film is mind boggling. Addmitedly it leaves something to be desired when compared to films of a similar ilk produced today but so does the Alamo or Waterloo, Ran remains a key point in cinema history which doubtless influenced many a potential filmaker, myself included Todays T-shirt: If you could say everything with words there'd be no need to Paint Todays music:Franz Ferdinand- Shopping for Blood # posted by The Prisoner | 10:14 AM | Monday, July 05, 2004
Who'da Thunk it?
Greece won euro 2004, how odd... i have many things to write about today so please bear with me. Firstly the other night me and the parents went to see a queen tribute band at the good old central theatre. Starring, some bloke who won stars in your eyes as Freddy Mercury, and surprisingly he was really really good, though i was most impressed by Brian May's alter ego who was delivering face melting solo after face melting solo, even if he didn't have enough hair :), best one was the bass player however, he was so obviously gay, with that little smile that gay people do and the way he sort of...erm...wiggled his head while singing along, this man was gloriously camp, more camp that a picture of simon, it was hilarious! Next day we went to another motor show with the Jensen ownwers club, considerably less enjoyable than the last one, mostly because the weather alternated between sweltering hot and pissing it down all day (ALL day) and we were outside, nice... And now for one of my occasional political rants! I am pleased to see that we're going to start legal procedings to get the last few Brits out of Guantanamo bay. Now i know what you are going t say, "Rob! how un-american of you, you're certainly displaying a lack of patriotism, Somebody call the FBI! We've got an Evildoer here!!!" but before you do let me spell out a few things (my facts may be slightly skewed so please correct any errors), There have been over 40 suicide attempts in camp delta by the "illegal combatants" incarcerated there, who have because of the new classification invented by the americans, no legal rights at all. My problem is that if they're so sure that the people they've got there are evildoers, then why don't they put them on trial and PROVE IT USING LEGAL MEANS! at the moment most of the information they use comesa from torture (they don't call it that but the conditions within camp delta are definately classed as psychological torture) They are made to keep their hands raised in the air for hours on end and the lights are never turned off. when interrogated they are put in a darkened room and made to watch music videos such as Metallica's enter sandman for hours! if that's not psychological torture i don't know what is. and in reference to all the people to have been released form x-ray and delta, can you guess how many have been charged with anything? NONE! not one, not a sausage, most of them seem to have been picked up almost arbitrarily by americans in afganistan and iraq. CLOSE IT DOWN!!! investigate them legally and then go out there and find the REAL terrorists. Bought razorlights album this morning, sounds pretty hot, go. buy. That's it for now i think, TTFN todays t-shirt(s):1- Rape is never a laughing matter, unless it involves a clown 2- God is busy May i help you? todays music: Razorlight-Golden Touch # posted by The Prisoner | 9:34 AM | Thursday, July 01, 2004
over and done with
so this week i'm finally done with school, and now i've got a week or two before i start my summer job to relax, and frankly people i'm already bored out of my skull, the most interesting thing i've got coming up is going to see the barbs again in London but thats not till the 11th, and then there's gonna be the LAN sometime in august, the date of which is still TBC as Simon can't make the original date. Gillingham high street is such a freak show, i'm sure i've said it before but i'm going to say it again! Luckily the clipboard brigade weren't there today, (paid employees who badger you into giving to charity-go figure) But the pikeys turned out in force selling shitty little plastic flowers and there was a man in the corner reading from the bible, not to anyone in particular just reading aloud, fair enough but if anythings going to put people off converting then it's weirdo shit like that, you just intimidate people. Not to mention the chavs, oh my!! Turns out the Barbs forum overlord went to my school, and Tim(guitar/vocals) went to the math school in rochester (bitter enemies of CGSB), meh...small world eh?
