Who's up for some heavy reading?
I finished my script submission and handed it in last week, if you really want to read it it can be found at this link May i remind you that while it didn't all happen at once, all the events depicted herin actually happened at some point during my Grandad's career in the navy (except for Dave the junior rate, i made him up). and he didn't hate my Great Nan that much either. have fun! *******Edit- i have now fixed the link and hosted it on an old blog of mine, should work better now!****** # posted by The Prisoner | 8:32 AM | Wednesday, April 20, 2005
boring
oh god! could i be more boring without launching into a discourse on the subject of paperclips or something. aaahh. never mind. I'm writing a script at the moment, a submission to get on next years screenwriting course, called Matelots (pronounced MATT-LOWS, slang for sailors, no i didn't know that one either) It is an amalgamation of several of My Grandad's old sea stories (mostly revolving around going out, getting pissed, and doing very stupid things in the interval) My favorite tale, which will be central to the plot is the gunnery officer who blew a hole in his wardrobe with a miniature cannon. no more for now, i'll post it when it's finished. if it's any good that is. ttfn todays music: Cardiacs-Big Ship todays t-shirt: Me.Me.Me. # posted by The Prisoner | 11:54 AM | Monday, April 18, 2005
this kicks azz
click him to make your own mister man! back at uni today, which is sort of good, though it does mean i have lots of work to do (all the work i should have done over *ahem* easter). However i am seeing all my friends again so that is good, and i can finally start editing Red morning light, assuming the rushes have actually been sucessfully developed, it's a real possibility that the whole film will be woefully under exposed, in which case i will heap all the blame on our long-absent cinematographer who's job it is to know that stuff, bastard. and now i have a radio show to do so i must dash. ttfn todays music: The Killers-Smile like you mean it todays t-shirt: Trainee gynaecologist # posted by The Prisoner | 3:23 PM | Sunday, April 17, 2005
and another, and another
went for some impromptu gigging with Kev this week, Idlewild supported by Sons and Daughters at the Folkestone Leas Cliff Hall, as i understand it he had a spare ticket so i came along, despite the fact i'm not a huge idlewild fan, i'm only vaguely aware of them and was familiar with perhaps two songs of theirs. Still they are a kickass band and despite their songs being a bit too 'new feeder' for my taste they really throw out some power live, and it certainly had all the girls (of which there where a fair few, idlewild being one of 'those' bands) going crazy. and then they did a ramones cover for the encore, *parfait*. sons and daughters were very good too, i'm adding them to me links, kinda like the white stripes crossed with kings of leon, but they're from scotland. cool. ttfn todays music: interpol-NYC # posted by The Prisoner | 7:20 PM | Tuesday, April 12, 2005
The flight of dragons
My absolute favorite movie as a kid.full stop. An amalgamation of two books, the plot largely came from 'the dragon and the george' by Gordon R Dickson with some modification. and then the visual style and physiology of the dragons came from 'the flight of dragons' by peter dickinson. I havent seen this film for about a decade but still bits of it spring to mind almost unbidden, Smrgol fighting the ogre of gormley keep, Peter/Gorbash crashing into a lake, evil Wizard Omadon (voiced by james earl jones no less!) disintegrating and blowing away on the wind, and my aboslute favorite moment, Bryagh the evil dragon exploding as a burning sword is thrown at him. Trust me this film was as ball-bustingly brilliant as any modern anime, and way before its time, people just assumed it was kids movie, but it's so bloody dark. For example, James earl jones gives a speech about how the fantasy world they live in will come to an end, "I will teach him to use his machines! i'll show him the power science can muster!" a mushroom cloud rises up, and forms the hunched shape of the wizard. genius. in recent years i have sought to aquire a copy of my own but i dont think they do a pal version. I believe my gran has the old copy taped off the telly but i'm not sure she still has it. man, i really need to find me a copy of this film! ttfn todays music: interpol-C'mere todays t-shirt: im not as think as you drunk i am # posted by The Prisoner | 11:33 AM |
