Media Studies-Does it kick ass or suck it?
The answer being who the fuck knows? which is in itself a question but is also an answer so i've now thrown meself into a continuity vortex of paradoxical stuff................bugger. The reason i ask is, after have spent week after tedious week analysing bits of adverts, we finally get to choose two texts of our own to present to the class, What have i chosen i hear you cry! ONLY AKIRA AND THE ANIMATRIX! i'm going to have so much fun talking about culturural imperialism and synergy and cross media fertilisation and japsploitation and homogenisation of genre and all sorts of bollocks like that. Now it occurs to me that the casual observer may now have some puzzling questions which i present here... question Bob! how come you're so great? Bob Awww shucks... question What i meant by that was, if media studies is so tedious, why do you do it? BobBecause it ain't usually and i do it so i can do film radio and television stuides at uni and make movis and become famous and win an oscar and get knighted and stufff.... three fff's hhmmmmmmmmm.......... todays music-AC/DC-bad boy boogie # posted by The Prisoner | 10:02 AM | Wednesday, March 24, 2004

today i have decreed i shall surrender to the almighty meme...
If you... 1. ...owned a restaurant, what kind of food would you serve? something with grease, you know, the kind where you can actually hear your arteries slam shut 2. ...owned a small store, what kind of merchandise would you sell? i'd be like the simpsons comic book guy, "hey buddy! if you're whackin' off to the japanese comics you're banned for life i swear!" and i could wear a t-shirt that said "C:/dos C:/dos run run dod run" a nerdy paradise.... 3. ...wrote a book, what genre would it be? sci-fi/fantasy....nuff said 4. ...ran a school, what would you teach? media studies, film making, creative writing, lazy stuff... 5. ...recorded an album, what kind of music would be on it? Heavy Metal, Indie, rock, anything with guitars (probably AC/DC stylee) Moving on... Paul has completerly changed his bloggy around but i'm slightly worried by all the pics of ananstasia :P I need to beautify mine up a bit, more swish lookin pics methinks, i might add some music too, but it would have to be remixed or something to keep in copyright laws. todays music: Muse-Butterflies and Hurricanes # posted by The Prisoner | 8:55 AM | Friday, March 19, 2004

B3ta!
does anybody else like going to this wonderful website and seeing what weird things students get up to when they should be working? at the moment the photoshop challenge is "the movie of the game"- y'know, Twister, it, indiana Jenga and the blocks of doom that sort of thing. here's my effort Y'know what the great thing about b3ta is? the site has developed so far through so many contributions that it has spawned it's own sub-culture populated by Status Quo, Brian Blessed, that blasted nohands kitten and domo kun... odd people indeed # posted by The Prisoner | 9:10 AM | Tuesday, March 16, 2004
This was the last proper post on my old blog a review of two recent gigs i went to
Cue Stingray theme music "STAND BY FOR ACTION!!!" Part 1- The Barbs, Tap 'n' Tin, Chatham First of all i had to sit through about an hour of boring bullshit because there was some music convention on first with apanel and questions and boredom before anyone played anything weirdy beardy goon in russian hat: Why won't you sign my band? record label man: you're crap WBGRH:That's no excuse... gaah tediousness personified. But that was soon over and done with cos i got bored and stood in the doorway with me mates taking the piss, and then holy of holy's, the band arrived! we were saved! They played for about a half hour but it was a glorious thirty minutes of catchy riffs and terribly infectious his/her vocals all with a glorious veneer of something very english (and australian!-Amy the guitarist and singer is an ozzie) we got an encore too, and badges and t-shirts and EP's sweet! Part 2-The Offspring, Wembley Arena, London Not quite the same league as the Barbs really, and much much louder! The journey was long and tedious with much milling about and changing of tube trains, but we finally got there to be harassed by the touts and t-shirt salespersons (Tickets! any tickets? i'll buy any spare!/T Shirts! get you're cheap knock-off t shirts right here!) Bought a grey t-shirt with THE OFFSPRING in red on it, looked better than one with just the tour dates or something. Two support acts: The Start (who started!) were kind of overpowered by the size of the place and i couldn't hear em properly, but the guitarist impressed me by revolving on the spot near constantly and holding his guitar at weird angles while playing. They might be good i couln't tell Rufio were you're typical 'jump in the air' ameripunk band but all the better for it, the songs were good and skillfully played, expect great things... The main event kept us waiting for ages before finally storming on to the bash of drums and 'woo'ing of the crowd, yes, they started with good ol' neocon (the intro to splinter featuring the crowd at last years reading festival). Every song they played was great and played greatly, the problem was the songs they didn't play. Aside from the new stuff it was all from Smash and Americana, they had four more albums to choose from which they ignored, oh well it was fun! Choice Dexter Holland Quotes of the evening 1.Wow Man! Look at the size of this place! it's fucking huge! there's people all the way over there, and over there... 2.Thanks guy's! you've been great so i've decided. There's a party in our bus after the show and you're all invited! (MASSIVE cheer) Yeah! we're all gonna get laid! This man is only a few years younger than my father!
